Sugar Packets

I never intended to collect sugar packets. It just happened. Wherever we went, we would slip a couple of packets in my wife`s handbag. Some were common packets, some were special to the place we were visiting. My late uncle John never married, but travelled the world. He would always bring back sugar packets from exotic locations and Canada. Usually these would be full sets, depicting views or native birds. Very nice and very collectable.
After uncle John died, the sugars got put in the attic, then, later on, in a store room at my shop. www.bennettsbtc101.co.uk
I found out, much later, that my daughter Sarah and her friend, also called Sarah, used to go in the attic and open all the doubles and eat the contents. Indeed, I remember once, we ran out of sugar and filled a jar with the stuff from the packets. We are having a clear out, so the packets had to go. I contacted The UK Sucrologist`s Club online [no, seriously it exists]. A nice lady from Hednesford called to the shop today and took them all away for her husband and his sugar packet collecting friends. They`ll have fun at their next swapmeet. As for me, they always reminded me of my uncle John, but I still have loads of other things that do that, so goodbye, packets!

Groucho Marx responsible for The Exorcist?

Anyone who knows me really well, knows I am a huge Marx Brothers fan. I am not so much a horror fan, though. I just read, in a piece by Barry Norman [greatest film critic ever], that William Peter Blatty appeared on a Groucho Marx quiz show and won $10,000. When Groucho asked him how he would spend the money, he replied, he would take some time off and write a novel. The result was The Exorcist. Just take a minute and think about that. If Barry says it`s true, it must be. I have never seen the film. I did read the book and it scared me enough to prevent me from ever seeing the film. Years later, I saw Linda Blair at a Memorabilia fair in Birmingham. She looked a lot better than in some of the scenes in the movie.
